Crush is an action-poem and sound-poetry protest performed at the Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim in Kassel, Germany on August 25, 2007 during documenta 12. I encourage the audience gathered at the Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim, a temporary café and exhibition space, to attach empty Orange CRUSH “soda-pop cans” to their shoes, and then walk on the pavement in front of the Kasseler Kunstvereinsheim as a protest for and against FOUND POETRY, SOUND POETRY and CONCRETE POETRY.

Le Bateau Ivre: a translation is a concrete poem, public performance and installation piece. It is a strict “one to one” mathematical translation of A. Rimbaud’s poem entitled Le Bateau Ivre (The Drunken Boat). In public performance I read Rimbaud’s poem in French out-loud, letter-by-letter, and drop a single cork on the gallery floor to designate each letter of the poem read. One used wine-bottle cork equals one alphabetic letter from Rimbaud’s poem for a total of 3,760 corks/letters. It takes approximately 2 hours to complete my reading/performance of Le Bateau Ivre: a translation. This poem was first performed at the exhibition opening of Metalogos at the Visual Arts Centre, Clarington, Canada. Metalogos was an international touring exhibition of Canadian intermedia and language-based contemporary art. The exhibition featured works by Christian Bök, Paul Dutton, Nobuo Kubota, Beth Learn, Steve McCaffery, Sylvia Ptak, W. Mark Sutherland, Francesca Vivenza and Darren Wershler.
